GANTRY TYPE MACHINING CENTRE FRF(Q)
MACHINE DESCRIPTION
The basic feature of the gantry-type FRF milling machine and FRFQ machining centre is travelling portal. This portal enables a full use of table working area at minimal requirements on built-up area. Traversable potral columns are movable along the working table sides. Working table length delivered as standard can start from 4 000 mm to 16 000 mm. Table modular conception enables working table delivery with maximal table length of 24 000 mm.

This machining centre is intended for machining of complex-shaped workpieces - such as moulds, press tools, dies etc. - having to be machined in five contour controlled axes (two rotation and three linear axes) according to the type of spindle head used. The machine parameters enable machining a wide range of materials, including the alloy steels and the light metal alloys. This machine has a fixed working table with constant height, which enables easy clamping and manipulation with heavy and large workpieces.
Machine description
The machine consists of fixed working table. Two traveling columns move on the side of a fixed table. These columns are connected by a fixed cross rail to form a portal. Cross slide moves on the cross rail. In the front part of the cross slide, there is a guideway for a headstock motion. The machine is formed by either one vertical headstock equipped with a standard spindle head (non-interchangeable) or by one vertical headstock equipped with a mechanism for automatic clamping of interchangeable spindle heads. The conception of machine fitted with interchangeable spindle heads enabling the machine modification to technological requests.
Spindle heads interchange permits to choose optimal spindle head type for the operation required.
Spindle heads
are available in two executions:
a) Non-interchangeable spindle heads
For fixed attach on headstock nose.
Spindle head K - spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max torque 1 000 Nm
· single spindle head – continuously turnable in two axes. Around the headstock axis in the range of ±180° (indexing by 1°) and around the cross axis in the range of +120° to -90°. The position stabilization is secured by hydraulically controlled friction brake. Drive of indexing around the headstock axis is a part of headstock. Indexing of the second rotary axis is a part of spindle.

Spindle head U - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 1 400 Nm
· twin spindle head – continuously turnable around the headstock axis in the range of ± 180° with the possibility of mechanical indexing by 1°. One spindle is longitudinal and the second one is perpendicular to the headstock axis.
b) Interchangeable spindle heads
For automatic attach on headstock nose.
Spindle head VK - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 1 000 Nm
· single spindle head - continuously turnable in 2 rotary axes. Around the headstock axis in the range of ±180° with mechanical indexing 1° and around the vertical axis in the range of +120° to -90°. Position stabilization is secured by means of hydraulic controlled friction brake. Mechanism of turning around the headstock axis with indexing is a part of headstock. Turning of the second rotary axis is a part of spindle head and is provided by means of servomotor and closed system of gears with mechanical backlash elimination in the gears. Drive of spindle is provided by headstock power shaft and 3 couples of bevel gears.
Spindle head VKE - max. spindle speed 16 000 min-1, max. torque 87 Nm (at regime S1)
- max. spindle speed 18 000 min-1, max. torque 130 Nm (at regime S6/40%)
· single spindle head with electric spindle, continuously turnable in two rotary axes. Around the headstock axis in the range of ±180° with mechanical indexing 1° and around the vertical axis in the range of +120° to -90°. Position stabilization is secured by means of hydraulic controlled friction brake. Mechanism of turning around the headstock axis with indexing is a part of headstock. Turning of the second rotary axis is a part of spindle head and is provided by means of servomotor and closed system of gears with mechanical backlash elimination in the gears. Spindle consists of rotor, el. spindle and is equipped with a tape HSK – A63 according to DIN 69063 – 1 with axis cooling liquid supply.
Spindle head VA1 - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 2 000 Nm
Spindle head VA2 - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 1 000 Nm – elongated version
· single spindle head spindle is adjusted to spindle headstock coaxially with spindle axis. Spindle is driven directly by headstock power shaft via claw coupling.
Spindle head VP1 - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 2 000 Nm
Spindle head VP2 - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 1 000 Nm – elongated version
· single spindle head – continuously turnable around the headstock axis in the range of ±180° with mechanical indexing by 1°. Spindle is perpendicular to headstock axis. Mechanism of turning around the headstock axis with indexing is a part of headstock. Spindle is driven directly by headstock power shaft via 1 couple of bevel gears.
Spindle head VP4 - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 500 Nm
· single spindle head – continuously turnable around the headstock axis in the range of ±180° with mechanical indexing by 1°. Spindle is perpendicular to headstock axis. Mechanism of turning around the headstock axis with indexing is a part of headstock. Spindle is driven directly by headstock power shaft via 1 couple of bevel gears and spur gears system. Head is ready to machine deep cavities.
Spindle head VP6 - max. spindle speed 4 000 min-1, max. torque 530 Nm
The head shape and dimensions are suitable for machining of narrow cavities – minimal width 125 mm.
All interchangeable spindle heads are equipped with a system for an axial cooling of tools: · low pressure cooling of tools FORM B, 5 bar, 50 litre per minute · high pressure cooling of tools 20 bar, 35 litre per minute · high pressure cooling of tools 30 bar, 35 litre per minute
Interchangeable spindle heads VK, VA1, VA2, VP1, VP2, VP4 have spindle taper ISO 50, spindle head VP6 has spindle taper ISO 40 only spindle head VKE has spindle taper HSK63.
